  • This is the remotest habited island on Earth, meaning the place people live which is farthest away from anything else
  • 1,750 miles from South Africa and 2,088 miles from South America
  • Population of around 260 people
  • Nightingale Island, Inaccessible Island and Gough Island are nearby wildlife reserves which are not habitable, but which you can visit for a quick trip
  • Home to rockhopper penguins, spectacled petrel (an endangered species), and fur seals

  • Most remote village in Greenland as well as the largest worldwide fjord complex
  • Home to narwhals, walruses, seals, polar bears, and millions of sea birds
  • You have to fly there from Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik. This can be tricky as there are only two flights per week during the summer, and one flight per week in the winter
  • Population of around 470 people
  • Itterajivit/Cape Hope and Uunartoq/Cape Tobin are a couple of eerie abandoned settlements nearby
  • The sea here is frozen for nine months each year

  • Flights are regular because of the popularity amongst hikers and campers, and you can find a few hotels here.
