The vast and varied spaces in and around Reno, Nevada offer a myriad of options when planning a family reunion. Whether desiring a quiet, private destination or looking for a bit of adventure, the choices are many.

Mount Rose

A popular ski resort in winter, at an elevation of more than 8,200 feet, the destination also offers plenty of warm weather fun. Ski lodges and playgrounds accommodate families of all ages. The mountain provides spectacular views over a number of areas including Donner Lake, Lake Tahoe, Reno and Sparks. The comprehensive ski areas offer lessons and trails for the convenience of winter sports lovers of all skill levels.

From spring through fall, the summit serves as a favored area for hiking. The trail extends just under 11 miles round trip and takes guests to a height of more than 10,700 feet. Mount rose also offers plenty of trails and bike lanes for bikers. There are trails available for anyone from the casual biker to the professional.

Rancho San Rafael Regional Park

When looking for the ideal outdoor location to host a family reunion, this public venue is worth a look. A working ranch until 1979, the land now encompasses around 570 acres that includes maintained turf and pastureland. Visitors find three pavilions and a variety of group and individual picnic areas, a playground and wetlands, along with the Arboretum, Botanical Garden, Labyrinth Garden and the Wilbur D. May Museum. Guests also find biking/hiking trails and a dog park. The vast open spaces lend themselves for all types of recreation.

Lake Tahoe

With hotel, vacation rentals and ski lodge options, Lake Tahoe offers a chance for all to stay and play together any time of year. Lake Tahoe is a great place to visit all year round. This beautiful blue lake offers sandy beaches for a picnic as well as boating, fishing or paddle boat rides.

In the summer, the lake is a great place to swim or play on the beach. For those who want to stay out of the water there are activities from beach volleyball to having a water fight with giant water balloons and squirt guns.

Wild Island

From the middle of May through September, the island located water park provides a tropical like atmosphere and fun for family members of all ages. Guests spend the day playing in a tide pool, floating along a lazy river or plummeting down a host of water slides. The dry side of the island location also features a 36-hole miniature golf course, bumper cars, a video arcade and a variety of food vendors. Other activities also include bowling, laser mazes and go-karts.

Choose a scenic location that provides a great background for group photographs or opt for a destination that ensures activities for guests of all ages. With the many destinations open to the public in Reno, there is no reason why families cannot enjoy a memorable reunion.
