Summer Vacations Are Upon Us

The summer is here, and many people will be taking road trips. Road trips are a lot of fun, but there are several things that you will need to do to keep yourself safe. Below are some tips for staying safe while on the road:

Plan a destination

However obvious this may seem, it is a must. There are all kinds of tales out there of bad or poorly planned vacations. Do some research and look into areas that fit what you and your family like to do for fun! If you’re an outdoor type family, places like Yellow Stone or Yosemite National park may be a good idea. These places may require permits, reservations etc… So make sure to plan ahead.

If you’re more of a “city” type family, seeing the sites in NYC or Seattle might be better for you. There are things like the Statue of Liberty, Central Park, Time Square that are just some of the obvious few in NYC. If you’re in Seattle, going to the space needle, touring Boeing, going to the famous Marketplace etc… are some fun family friendly ideas. Since this a road trip, these destinations mentioned above also have places to see on your way to and from as well, so get out and on the open road!

Pack for Emergencies

No one likes to think about all of the things that can go wrong during a road trip. However, it is best to prepare yourself for emergency situations that you could encounter while on the road. Make sure that your cell phone has a list of phone numbers that you could call if you needed help. You should also pack an emergency kit that has first aid supplies, blankets, flashlights, batteries, jumper cables and bottled water.

Have Your Car Inspected

Before you leave for your road trip, you should get you should visit the auto shop for an overall inspection of your vehicle. Your brakes, air conditioner, window and emissions control system are examples of some of the parts that will be inspected. You should make sure that all repairs are made before you go on your road trip. Your car will be much less likely to break down on the side of the road if repairs are made beforehand. To make sure that you have enough money for the trip itself, make sure to check out a place that sells used auto parts.
