The beautiful harbour city that is Sydney is a tourist’s dream. Incorporating stunning natural vistas that include rivers, bush land and beaches, a thriving, pulsing, modern city that puts Sydney on the map as a truly global destination and enviably temperate weather that just begs for you to spend time outdoors, there’s a reason why Sydney always makes it to the top of the list in terms of livable cities.
While we’d recommend taking a day tour to familiarize yourself with what the city has to offer, here are a few highlights to help you plan your trip. Enjoy!
Iconic Bondi Beach is a must-see for visitors to Sydney. Not only is it breathtakingly beautiful, but it is populated by some of the city’s (and the world’s) most beautiful people. Take a stroll along the cliff walk from Bondi to Coogee, and see why Sydney’s coastline gets so much good press.
Nestled within Sydney Harbour is the smaller inlet of Darling Harbour. Packed to the brim with shops, restaurants and tourist attractions such as the Aquarium and Imax Theatre, Darling Harbour is the place to be if you want to soak in the heart of this sprawling city.
You can climb it if you want to, but even if the idea of heights doesn’t thrill you, simply standing and staring at its awe-inspiring design with the backdrop of the water and the city setting it off is enough to make your trip complete.
Marvel at the architecture and snap a few Kodak moments on its steps. If you’re so inclined, take in a show and let your mind be blown as you experience the acoustics for yourself.
All inner-city suburbs of Sydney, these are the trendiest hotspots for bright young things. Shop your heart out along Oxford Street or peruse the Paddington Markets for designs by young, talented artists trying to make a name for themselves. Surry Hills is the perfect place to sample Sydney’s thriving foodie scene, as well as to people watch or dance the night away in one of it’s hipper-than-hip bars.
Not far out of Sydney lie the Blue Mountains, picturesque and awe-inspiring in their majestic beauty. A 2 hour drive or train ride will see you in the mountains, where you can hike, shop antiques or simply while away the hours in the fresh mountain air at one of the charming little villages. The Three Sisters, a famous rock formation, are also located here, so try to make the trip on a clear day so your view isn’t impeded by fog!
There’s something for everyone in Sydney, so make sure you experience it the best way possible—by throwing yourself in head-first and letting the city show you its gems.
