Tenerife offers a range of landscapes from mountain villages to coastal towns and seaside resorts. Holidaying in Tenerife is within easy reach for UK tourists, as flights take little more than four hours from nearly every UK airport. It is an ideal destination in both winter and summer months.

The beaches of Tenerife are all are very high quality, clean and environmentally friendly, with most easy to access. Most popular daytime activities include hiking and cycling, paragliding, surfing, fishing, diving, sailing and golf. Night time entertainment varies depending upon the resort. Playa de las Americas is the liveliest resort, with endless bars, clubs and pubs. Los Cristianos offers an authentic Spanish atmosphere and for families and couples, there is Playa Paraiso with ocean views and Puerto De Santiago, a small fishing village. Puerto de la Cruz is most famous for its saltwater lagoons, rock islands and beautiful waterfalls.
To get around Tenerife and experience more of the cultural facilities, a hire car is the best option. Buses cover most of the island and are fairly frequent.
El Teide is well worth a visit via cable car. You can climb to the top but special permission is necessary, obtained at the island’s capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife. However, beware of the weather changes – a trip to El Teide can be very cold, and winter often sees a few feet of snow. The mountain is technically the highest peak in Spain. The mountain also splits the climate in Tenerife with trade winds from the Atlantic blowing in to create a warm, humid sub-climate whilst the close proximity to Africa means that to the south and east, Tenerife is on average hotter and drier.
Tenerife holidays very popular with scuba divers, as the waters round the island are dive able all year round. Temperatures vary between 18 degrees in January to around 25-26 degrees in August. As far as eating out is concerned, fish is predictably a specialty as are tapas, eaten a lot with local specialties including refried beans, garlic sauces and squid. Having said that, there are 15 McDonalds on the island.
