Pacific Coast Highway-California

The state’s famous Route 1 spans more than 650 miles from Orange County to Mendocino County. The best views are seen along a 123-mile area known as the Pacific Coast Highway. Starting in Monterey, motorists drive south through ancient redwood forests and along the seaside cliffs of Big Sur. While there are plenty of locations to stop, stretch your legs and snap a quick photo, the highway also presents some challenges in the way of hairpin turns, hazardous drop-offs and occasional fog.
Scenic Byway 12-Utah

Commonly referred to as the “journey through time scenic byway,” Route 12 offers 122 miles of two-lane roadway that twists through the Colorado Plateau. The view along this adventure includes the chance to see a variety of geological formations that formed hundreds of millions of years ago. Starting in Panguitch, from Route 89 to Route 12, the landscape includes the red-rock desert and the spires of Bryce Canyon National Park.

Blue Ridge Parkway-North Carolina to Virginia

The highway extends for 469 miles and connects the Great Smoky Mountains National Park with the Shenandoah National Park. Wildflowers bloom in the mountain meadows and along the roadside from spring into fall. The fall tree colors are a spectacular sight. Enjoy the hiking trails, historic locations and scenic overlooks.

The journey includes crossing the snowy slopes of Mount Alyeska and through the evergreen forests of Chugach State Park. At Turnagain Arm, wildlife opportunities might include the chance to see eagles or beluga whales.

Hana Highway-Maui, Hawaii

The continually winding highway spans 52 miles along the coastline of Maui. Around the 600 curves, the view offers black, sandy beaches, fast-flowing waterfalls and miles of Hawaiian jungle terrain. Make a point of stopping at the Botanical Arboretum or the Garden of Eden and see the locations used to film Jurassic Park.
