UK caravan park guide

Caravan holidays are amongst the best when it comes to freedom, relaxation, choice of location and on-site facilities. Great for couples and families alike, the best caravan parks are secure, well cared for, thoughtfully laid out to offer each pitch a degree of privacy and with exclusive entertainment for holidaymakers. Whether you`re seeking peace and quiet or a lively nightlife and plenty of activities for the kids, you`ll find both in some of the UK`s most beautiful countryside.

The South

Across the south of England, from Cornwall to Norfolk and at all points between, you`ll find one of Britain`s best loved caravan parks. Haven offers both large and small parks, most of which have leisure activities on the site. Many are right on the coast, providing easy access to the beach or great views across dunes.

Riviere Sands in Hayle, Cornwall, for instance, is a small park that has direct access to a sandy beach but also heated outdoor and indoor swimming pools. Water activities include Water Walkerz, which are giant plastic globes so you can walk on water and Aqua Gliders that are suitable for younger kids from ages 5 -7 years. There are also organised activities for kids from toddlers to teens and a café, bar and restaurant on the site for all the family.

If family activities are not your thing, try Suffolk Sands in Suffolk, where you`ll find nothing but wide expanses of restful beach in a calm and sunny location. Felixstowe Beach, the next park along the coast and the sister park to Suffolk Sands, has full entertainment facilities that you can share if you fancy a night out.

The North

From Skegness, one of Lincolnshire`s favourite holiday regions on the east coast, to Windermere in the Lake District to the west, the north of England offers some of the best holiday scenery and entertainment.

Butlins at Skegness offers a large and varied holiday resort with diverse entertainment facilities from an outdoor splash zone for the kids to pampering at the spa for the grown-ups. There is also a cinema, full shopping facilities, including a newsagent and gift shop and plenty of restaurants and cafes. The caravan village is set in 100 acres of landscaped gardens. It`s away from the main site but close enough for easy access.

Windermere caravan holiday opportunities include Lakeland. Just 30 minutes from Lake Windermere, holidaymakers here have the best of both worlds. There are coastal walks from the edge of the park and just 20 miles to a sandy beach, yet the lake itself is within striking distance. It`s a 4-star park, with a 9-hole golf course, archery and heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools.

Caravan holidays are extremely popular and get booked up well in advance. Plan and book as early as possible to get the widest choice, especially if you`re restricted in the times you can take a holiday or you`re set on visiting a particular park. For big names you can trust, look out for early Butlins deals in any of their three seaside resorts, with some of the best opportunities coming from private static caravan owners who rent out their vans during the holiday season.
